The results of the power pledge drive #1: Corruptions

The first power pledge drive of the ADOM crowd funding campaign is over: We made a total of $21.515 which results in 12 new corruptions being added to the next release of ADOM (1.2.0). Thanks for your support!

The next goal still is the 50% mark and I sincerely hope that we'll take it soon on our way to a successful funding. This weekend I will try to finalize my research on doing a limited edition box of the next ADOM release. I'm still extremely careful about physical goods as the overhead efforts and costs are much higher than most people think. If anyone has good advice on a producer of boxes in Germany together with custom printing, etc. I'm happy for any advice at creator(at)ancientdomainsofmystery or via Facebook as so far I am less than happy with my findings.

Read ya!

P.S.: Right now I can't log into Indiegogo due to some technical problems at Indiegogo. I'll change the content of the campaign as soon as that problem is resolved.

  1. 12 new corruptions! That's gonna be awsome! Do you already have some ideas?

    1. By the way, Biskup i have tons of ideas, (and I already reviewed them in terms of community, atmosphere, and capability, so they are not newbie ideas) where should i post them?

    2. Probably over on the forums somewhere http://www.adom.de/forums/

http://www.adom.de/forums/showthread.php/11842-New-corruption-ideas is a thread specifically about suggestions for these new corruptions.

  2. Any hints for the next pledge drive? I just got my check so I'm going to wait 'til the next drive to start dropping the ducats!

  3. yeah i just wanted to state the obvious in that people will start depositing again as soon as you start a new pledge drive. just saying that although deposits slowed right down after last pledge ended because now everyone will wait to get more bang for their buck.

i dont know much about crowd funding but i would have guessed that after the initial set of deposits slowed down that it would be best to have a near constant chain of pledge drives running. its certainlythe reason im waiting to deposit

    1. The problem here is that this is kind of difficult as we calculated the initial budget with a certain amount of work in mind. Adding more corruptions into the mix wasn't that hard as they are comparably simple to implement... many other features are much harder and time intensive and I'm right now torn between getting the pledging going and being realistic about what we can do.

Right now I do not have any set of features that I feel I can include into the game within a new power pledge drive without totally ruining out calculation. I'm thinking about it but it's pretty hard to do.

    2. Hmm, given how corruptions affect gameplay:

      -Room effects/feelings?
      -Traps?
      -...Plants to grow?
-Something to do with enhancing the character creation process a part at a time?

    3. What about artifacts, or just weapons (scurgari of slaying would be fine)? Those should be easy, right? Although it depends on the innards of the code, of course.

You could always ask for more, i.e. $600 for each new artifact rather than $300, if it's harder.

    4. Different item types would be best, I think. You could have a schedule - a weapons week, a potions week, a scrolls week, a rings week, etc. Could also do weapon and armour egos. Or maybe talents. Obviously they'd have to be simple enough that they wouldn't take long to code in. We could community drive ideas again, with the caveat that they can't be too exotic.

The current situation of people deliberately not contributing to "save up" is a very bad position to be in. Many of these people will end up not paying at all, or not as much. Having constant drives on will help keep the momentum going.

    5. Equipment types seems like it might be a simple enough way to go, especially if you mostly avoid new effects. I'd imagine that the underlying architecture is set up that it wouldn't be too much work to add, say, mithril/adamantium/eternium short swords or mithril/adamantium/eternium heavy maces, or maybe a couple of new types of whips (yes, I'm pushing for some love for whips :)

This, many times. There's been pretty much no activity in the last week. I'd vote for new weapons to counterbalance the abundance of swords and the power of polearms. That shouldn't take much time to add.

    7. I agree that more whips would be cool. But also boomerangs, scurgari, and maybe a staff or two. All those weapon types are underused.

  4. Hey, I was thinking on something... what about selling/including a monster's manual for Adom or Adom II deluxe. i mean, o always wanted to know how does a Dorn Beast, a water grue, or gray slayer look liked. that would be an awsome feature! you could even add that as a pledge drive!

    Yes?

  5. What about another pledge drive in order to get a decorative pdf stating your name and a certain amount of random source code lines according to your pledge.

    1. I think it's not fair that people get *personal* rewards depending on the moment when they paid. Everyone that donates the same amount should get the same rewards. (This is not a problem for the corruption pledge drive, since we all get the game with the new corruptions).

  6. I like Darren Grey's idea of a schedule of small things; helmet week, weapon week, whip week, trap week, maybe a larger drive to get a new dungeon one week.

  7. First, I'm so honored that you liked the Chaos Knight idea. But more importantly: No matter what you do specifically, please update the campaign and this blog. Keep the momentum going! You're doing so marvelously! Don't go for 48K, go for the stretch goals! Cheering for ADOM from the States!

  9. Ooh, new idea - Mad Minstrel song drive! I'm very happy to contribute. Here's some new ones to get started:

  10. How about adding racial powers in addition to class powers? (along the lines of Drakling Spit)

For example, give Dark Elves (maybe just wizards and priests?) a racial power they can use ever 1000 turns (or whatever) that summons spiders - the number and type changing depending on level. Maybe temporarily drain 1 pt of Mana. This would be presumably easy to implement (just a modification of the summon monsters spell, I imagine), fit well with the game world, and make the game a lot more interesting. I'm sure you could get a lot of great ideas for racial powers from the forums.
