ADOM II 0.2.5 has been released!

I'm relieved to announce the release of ADOM II 0.2.5! After yesternights mishappen ADOM II 0.2.4 release with a glaring bug under Windows that even prevented starting the game this new release should work fine on Windows (at least it does on my test system).

All the good stuff described in yesternights release notes naturally also is included in 0.2.5 - so enjoy the game. I'm strongly committed to switching to "release early, release often", so during the next week I definitely only will add minor stuff and wait for bug reports to get them fixed immediately. Additionally I all work on the remaining bugs in the bug database. If you find issues with the new release please report them as soon as possible. I'd love to get to work on 0.3.x but that requires a stable base.

Sorry for the trouble with 0.2.4 - that's what you get for hacking and neglecting testing... taught me a lesson I should have known for many many years.

Now download ADOM II 0.2.5.

Axes high!

  1. Don't be sorry, you released because we bugged you on Facebook :P

And anyway, it's not like we lost anything... 2 minutes of our lives downloading and executing something that didn't work, just to see it fixed the next day, is not so traumatic!

  2. Cool :)

Say, do you think you could make the game allow character names of 2 letters? Right now the minimum is 3, which precludes names such as "Ed", "Ty", and "Og" (hey, who says you can't play a caveman? :))

Also, the skill allocation screen is quite overwhelming for starting the game - how about some sort of in-game help? :)

  3. Oh, I found a bug - pressing the 5 key on the numpad does not rest a turn as described in the help!

  4. MSE is coming up with a trojan warning when I download this.

    "C:\Users\Ardee\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\39\7490667-723d459e->SiteFormatHelper.class"

    Any idea why?

    1. No one else on Reddit seems to be getting it with MSE so might just be something on my PC.

  5. Armies seem to be broken. I've just spent 700 years(!) locked with (more) prompts in the wilderness.

Just hundreds of lines of "The orcish army moves to the north-west. Some horde lays siege to the tiny hamlet! Some horde lays siege to the elven town!", etc.

Playing a (level 4) Orc Monk, just left the first dungeon and got stuck.

    1. This just happened again, this time I managed to grab an error message so I'll just report it as a bug.

    2. That's totally strange. Armies worked fine for me - I have been playing with them for weeks. Oh well... 0.2.6 is begin prepared while I write this.

  6. Curious, I have played 4 or 5 games and haven't seen armies yet. Also haven't seen the special dungeon features yet... have they really been activated?

I like how the hunger and food system works now, and the level scaling also seems to be less linked to character level and therefore make more sense than before (although I haven't been able to make it past character level 9, so this is just an impression). It's also great that invisibility and the wall-passing ability are back, and monsters in general seem way more balanced than before (e.g. hobgoblin chieftains or undead with draining attacks).

But the biggest problem at the moment is http://www.adom.de/forums/project.php?issueid=957 - I have had three games broken by that already... it seems to eventually always appear if you get far enough in the game, so it should be top priority.

    1. The armies do not show up immediately. The story progresses as time goes by.
