Quick update: More mouse support for ADOM II (formerly known as JADE)

Just added two mouse support features to the next release ADOM II / JADE:

  • During movement mode you can click on some known position and the PC will move there.
  • During look mode (new for the next release) you can hover over a visible position and it will be described in more detail (including known statistics for NPCs).
At some point (but not for the next release) right-clicking during movement mode probably also will provide extended descriptions but that will have to be considered in more detail. All changes have been documented on the new DevState page.

  1. Right-clicking to use some of the keyboard shortcuts might be useful (wipe face, clean ears etc.)

Also, hovering over 'magic' on the right click drop down brings up a list of available spells with relevant casting costs etc.

I think extending the mouse usage is a step forward as some players will undoubtedly prefer to play with the mouse which will make it accessible to a wider audience who might otherwise be put off by a keyboard-only game.

Personally, I'd prefer to continue to use the keyboard...although it's difficult to explain why. Maybe it's the joy of seeing the wife's expression as I explain that pressing 't' will fire a longbow of accuracy at the advancing blue g thus killing it and causing my character (symbolised by part of an email address) to advance a level as a farmer :)
