ADOM Lite RPG is done

Finally it is done. After a journey that seemed to know no end. During the ADOM crowdfunding campaign a reward level was devised that allowed donors to get access to a limited edition of the ADOM Lite RPG rules for pen & paper roleplaying games - available but once and then nevermore. Now it is finished.

And it took so much longer than I ever anticipated - for which I am sorry. But I'm a much better programmer than I am an RPG writer. Nonetheless I'm proud of the results, very grateful for the many people that helped proofreading, supplied graphics, etc. The end result is excellent.

But I also know that I won't be writing RPG rules under a schedule for a long time to come (I have four other RPG rules systems in various stages of preparation but that's something I'm just doing for my private fun and these days I no longer have the time to work on them... one Shadowrun clone with a much better rules system than Shadowrun ever had... one D&D clone with my personal set of D&D rules... one Gamma World clone with awesome graphics... and one more fantasy game covering the darkest and most brutal fantasy world ever vomitted into the consciousness of people - but all that is another story stemming from the time before the ADOM crowdfunding campaign ;-) ).

So what's going to happen next?

  • By the end of the week I am leaving for a two-week holiday. Before leaving I will order a final proof copy from Lulu. It should arrive during my holiday and will be reviewed immediately afterwards. I do not expect any more sweeping changes.
  • In the very near future (hopefully before the end of the week) the ADOM fulfillment portal will accept your updated mailing addresses so that I can prepare for shipping.
  • Probably at the same time I also will allow the donors from the Questor level and update will be asked to provide their mailing addresses for the reversed postcard quest.
The large RPG book order (500+ books) will go out around the second week of April. I'm not sure how long it will take Lulu to print the books but I'd expect another two to three weeks. Thus May probably (and finally) will be the shipping month for ADOM Lite RPG.

In parallel I will quickly try to finish the ADOM Classic Boxed set for the Master Thief donor levels. I already have laid out the content for the additional 32 page booklet but expect to require summer to have everything finished. Hopefully these things will be able to ship around August or September.

So finally things are getting finished. And I am yearning so much to return to programming. In retrospective I probably never should have offered the physical rewards as they have shown to be a big distraction from programming ADOM... and that was not the intention. But now that they are here, they are going to be great :-)

So thanks for your eternal patience... it's so much more than I deserve. But I did my best and real life continues to prove being a huge challenge. 2016 so far has been at least as busy as 2015 and the itch to continue working on ADOM is incredible. If it just weren't for the various distractions...

(P.S.: all pictures for ADOM Lite RPG in this post are old ones... I'll post new ones as soon as I have the proof reading copy in my hands)

  1. Thank you for seeing it through to the end! It couldn't have been easy, but you didn't give up and that in and of itself is an accomplishment.

    1. It wouldn't be an ADOM release without misspellings!

    2. My proofreaders worked really hard. If any mistakes remain it's totally my fault.

  4. Thanks Thomas, you really do deserve the patience and understanding of the ADOM community. You are the great and powerful Creator after all :D. Thank you once again for your hard work and perseverance.

  5. You just can't rush quality, Thomas. You've fought the good fight, and that's enough for us. I look forward to seeing the book.

  10. It's so sad that I do not participate to the adom lite founding level... Do there is a way to obtain this document now? ...

    1. No, there is no other way. I promised during the crowdfunding campaign that this would be a once in a lifetime limited edition. Maybe that promise was not wise but it was the promise and thus I'm going to keep it. Sorry for not having anything else to offer but I'm definitely not going to offend any of the people who so gratuitously donated during the campaign.

  11. If I understand this correctly, only backers at that level can get access to this limited print of the book. My question is, what if you missed the Indiegogo campaign and wanted to play a tabletop with these rules? So in that case, have any plans on releasing a "PDF" version of the rules? Its not as good as a paperback version, but its better than nothing. Thoughts, TB?

    1. See above. It was promised as a once in a lifetime choice. Looking back that promise might have been kind of stupid. But I made it and I am going to keep it. So I have no idea now.

Maybe - if I ever feel again like writing an RPG - there might be some kind of extended edition at some point in the future. But I'm definitely not planning to write it in any near future. Programming is so much more fun that writing. So there is nothing I can offer right now.

    2. Like an adom 2 pen and paper, or even oh oh! Another saga that either prequels or sequels the adom games, maybe something that might allow the gm the option of including their game character from the actual rogue like, to be a part of the story of their pen and paper campaign.

There is a romance to the idea that adom lite is a limited edition treasure i have to hunt for in the internet as auctioned or whatever, its like the smokey quartz Orb of the Moons, and the brittanian cloth maps that came in the box od Richard Garriot's 1990 game, Ultima 6. Although adom lite is limited edition, it wouldnt be a breach of your word to one day create a whole other adom tabletop game.

  12. Never participated to Indiegogo campaign, did not know that there was one. Otherwise would been participated. Is there any way to get ADOM lite rpg digitally?

    1. Other than once more having messed it up completely I can say that I am trying to get back on track. Another blog post is going to follow today on all that. Sorry for once again missing all dates :-( I suck at that.
