Some ADOM crowd funding statistics

I just would like to give you some quick statistics regarding the ADOM crowd funding campaign, now that only 16 days are left:

  • The campaign as the time of this writing managed to collect an impressive $33.046 of $48.000 - which still is but 68,85% of the required total.
  • In other words: On average each of the remaining days now will need to yield $934,63 - a mark we are quite removed from right now.
  • The campaign up to now had 40.227 visitors, of which 691 donated to the campaign - a mere 1,7% (which shows the potential and how easily a 1% increase can make a difference).
  • The average donation amount for the ADOM crowd funding campaign right now is $47,82. There average on Indiegogo usually is about $70.
  • 3.558 people so far download the prerelease. This is much less than 5% of the number of downloads for a new ADOM release ten years ago (so there might be a large untapped reservoir of former ADOM players that doesn't even know that ADOM has already been kind of resurrected). If all donors downloaded the new version (something I'd just guess to be true) 19,42% of the downloaders felt that ADOM was worth $10 or more.
  • A maximum of 29 of the 691 donors (4,2%) showed interested in the ADOM pen & paper RPG (at most, I know that some folks only wanted the RPG and not any of the other pledge levels).
That's the numbers I have right now. I'll continue to post countdown updates for the remainder of the campaign. Let's see if we can make this.

  1. A few days ago I was searching for a graph showing donations over time, is that information available somewhere?

    I will donate this week, I just need to check how much money I can spare. The $400 mark would be nice but I have a feeling that $100 is more realistic for my bank account.

  2. I have no chart for the ADOM crowd funding campaign so far. I'll built one after the campaign. Usually these charts seem to show very high funding levels at the beginning and the end (whatever "high" might mean) and very low rates in the middle with an occasional spike. I would assume that ADOM's chart would look pretty similar.

  3. I'm surprised IndieGoGo don't provide some charts themselves. We geeks do love our graphs :)

    For the final push, I think a ADOM II release would help a lot. What might also be cool, if you and Jochen have the time, is another ADOM prerelease, perhaps with a couple of tweaks from the last one and some genuine new content. Would just have to be a new artifact or something simple, but it could get people really excited about the prospect of new stuff being added to ADOM.

    An early example of an integrated NotEye build would also be nice to see - it doesn't have to be working properly, just something to demo the system. More effective than a Youtube video in my opinion.

    I'm quite anxious now that this campaign will fall just short of the line, after having such a strong start :/

    2. Yeah, me too - is it an automatic thing that IndieGoGo refunds everyone's money if the goal isn't met, or can you scale down the project if you don't receive enough funding! Seems like a horrible business model if you can't scale it down - how are you supposed to know exactly how much something like this would cost anyway?!

    3. Yes, it's automatic. When it fails, it fails. Nothing to be done about it. As I said in the beginning: Fate will bring this to some kind of closure... either way.

    4. @Darren: Do you really think that folks who are "interested enough" just don't come back after a while? I find this hard to believe.

      In any case all the ruckus about the funding amount in the beginning plus the technical uncertainty just made it impossible to have these stretch goals defined right away. Call it bad timing, I just call it Fate ;-)

    5. I call it killing goodwill with a uninspired initial campaign with very poorly defined goals and an improbably high asking amount. I am impressed it's gotten this high as it is.

  4. I'm not surprised. If everyone who downloaded the new version donated $5 it'd be done. Easy. I feel like Thomas isn't asking for a lot. If he asked you to pay $48k for the game I could understand, but he's asked you for a few dollars, or more if you'd like. Sounds like a bargain to me. I hope it is successful, if only so I can get a boxed edition of this game.

  5. I wish I had a nickel for every hour of ADOM I've played to donate. That would add to the campaign something around the general area of a shit load of nickels.
